So… LCARS interface on USS Andalucia website?

Entry by LCDR Óscar García C., SFCoE. Chief Engineer – USS Andalucia

With the incessant and harmonious hum of the warp engine in the background, I dare to jot down a few lines, with the sole intention, dear visitor, of explaining to you why you are seeing this fantasy of a website designed using the LCARS interface.

I must confess my humble origins as a Star Trek fan. Although I’ve always been a follower of the other franchise, I felt like something was missing, there was always something that made me look at the stars with different eyes, not those of belligerence, but those of exploration and knowledge.

I’ve always been a man of letters, yet marveling at the sciences. After reading Carl Sagan‘s “Contact,” I pondered the same question as young Ellie: if we were alone in the universe, how much wasted space…

Diving headfirst into the Star Trek universe changed my life. In every way. Specially when watching for the first time Star Trek: The Next Generation. Becoming part of STARFLEET was the culmination of that initial phase of discovery. Semper exploro.

With my assignment to the USS Andalucía, I decided that I should pour my professional knowledge as a contribution, a small contribution to this great and wonderful community of fans and enthusiasts. And so, I decided to breathe life into our website, adapting the wonderful work of Michael Okuda that I felt in love the first time I saw it, using the templates from thelcars.com as a base and adapting them to work with WordPress and Divi, which are my daily work tools. I had seen some approximations, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I needed something more. And I had to build it myself and make it work, like a good engineer.

There’s much room for improvement, things that don’t work quite right, and others that I’ve adapted freely and recklessly, but the work has been done with all the love possible. I hope you like it, dear visitors, and that you enjoy our website as much as I have enjoyed making it. It’s not finished, it never will be… our journey together has just begun.

Will you accompany us to discover what lies beyond the stars?
